Description
Hydrogenated nitrile is a synthetic polymer that results from the hydrogenation of nitrile rubber (NBR). The hydrogenating process saturates the polymeric chain with accompanying improvements to the ozone, heat and aging resistance of the elastomer and improves overall mechanical properties. HNBR, like NBR, increasing the acrylonitrile (ACN) content increase resistance to heat and petroleum based oils and fuels, but decreases the low temperature performance. The acrylonitrile content ranges between 18% and 50%. HNBR fills the gap between NBR and FKM in many areas of applications. They are used to replace NBR whenever excessive heat is critical. They are also used to replace FKM whenever basic additives such as amine-based corrosion inhibitors are
used.


Application Advantages

Limitations

  • Like Nitrile, HNBR is not recommended for exposure to polar solvents.

  • Increased cold flow with hydrogenation

  • Decreased elasticity at low temperature with hydrogenation over standard nitrile
